State

During tax season, hard copies of state tax forms will be available at the Hoover Building in Des Moines. Forms will also be available online at https://tax.iowa.gov.

Federal

Federal Tax Forms

The following federal paper forms have arrived:

  • Instructions for form 1040
  • 1040 (as of tax year 2018 forms 1040A and 1040EZ are no longer in use)

Reproducible copies of other federal tax forms and instructions are also on order, but have not arrived yet.

Federal tax forms will also be available online at https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs and at the Federal Building in Des Moines. Individuals can request to have tax forms mailed to them online or by calling 1-800-829-3676.

Free File

Many Americans qualify to file free federal and/or state tax returns. Find more information about IRS's Free File program

United Way VITA Tax Assistance

If you earned less than $58,000 last year, you may be eligible to receive FREE tax preparation help from United Way. Find more information on the VITA website or by calling 1-800-908-9946.

AARP Tax Assistance

The AARP Foundation's Tax-Aide has information about the closest locations offering free tax assistance. AARP will NOT be offering free tax assistance at the Johnston Public Library.
