Mack Petersen has been working as manager of the Beach Club for twelve summers. This summer the owner of the hotel, Bill Elliott, shows up in the spring with a new set of demands. Mack's girlfriend, Maribel, is pressing to get married. Vance, the African American bellman, is festering with resentments. And the guests at the hotel come with their own problems and desires.
