    Muggles, grab your wands, put on your invisibility cloaks and get ready to experience Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in a whole new way! Act out scenes from the movie with your own bag of wizard props and interactive script. Popcorn, Butterbeer, and other magical snacks will be provided. Wizard-themed attire is encouraged, but not required and RSVP's are appreciated.

  • Teen Tech Club: Finch Robot Workshop

    East Meeting Room (1/2 of Large), West Meeting Room (1/2 of Large), Story Time Room, Tech Lab Tue., Jan. 2nd 4:00pm - 5:00pm

    In this introductory robotics workshop, students will use the block-based programming language, Scratch, and a Finch educational robot to learn basic concepts such as control, sensory feedback and information processing. Attendees will also be introduced to the paired programming method in which students work collaboratively in teams of two. Teams will complete hands-on projects of temperature conversion, traffic lights and Finch tag. This class is taught by staff from YouthCode.

    Only approximately 1 in 23 cases of elder abuse are ever reported, and 90% of elder abuse is committed by a family member or other trusted person. Iowa is an aging state, with more than 490,000 individuals older than 65. It is second in the percentage of adults 85 years or older. This course will help participants learn how to recognize abuse in later life and what actions should be taken if abuse is occurring in their own lives or in the lives of those around them. Attendees will also learn how to protect themselves as well as how to effectively help any friends, families, or loved ones who may be experiencing abuse.
