Holidays In Johnston

Join us for a town celebration at the Johnston Public Library on Saturday, December 7th from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Holidays in Johnston will feature crafts, cookie decorating, a gingerbread house contest, entertainment, food and fun (while supplies lasts). Santa will even make a special appearance on a Johnston fire truck! No registration is necessary. Holidays in Johnston is free and open to everyone. The Johnston Public Library is located at 6700 Merle Hay Road.

Sensory Spaces: Holiday Edition

Join us for cookie decorating, crafts, and visit with certified therapy dogs provided by the Iowa Human-Animal Bond Society at this Special Edition Sensory Spaces program. The Johnston Public Library will be open for an additional hour before opening so that our patrons, who appreciate a sensory friendly environment, can enjoy the library! Patrons will be able to browse the library, checkout materials, use computers, and enjoy sensory friendly activities. Did you know DMARC's Mobile Food Pantry makes bi-monthly stops to the Johnston Public Library parking lot? Stops will be the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays from 4pm-6pm. Find more information at www.dmarcunited.org/food/mobile/ WHAT CAN I RECEIVE? Once per calendar month, you may receive a 3-day supply of food, measured by family size. Our food follows a healthy food guideline. Select which food items you want with our choice pantry service model. Daily food items are available to anyone, any time the pantry is open. HOW DO I GET HELP? There are no income requirements. Bring a photo ID for every adult member of your household, and some other form of ID for all children in the household. At the Mobile Food Pantry, you will go through a short intake process.

Flirting with the idea of a book club, but not interested in peopling or meeting? We get you. Silent Book Club is all of the book club with none of the meeting. Print copies of the Silent Book Club book of the month will be available at JPL beginning the 8th of the month, while supplies last. If you're feeling social, (as in, social media social), join the JPL Silent Book Club Facebook group and chat with fellow readers about characters, plot, how that one character really bothered you, or whatever else you need to get off your chest. Yep, it's that simple and that silent. Book selections for each month will be announced in the Facebook group. Discussion begins online on the Last Monday of each month.
