    JPL's Animal Rescue Friends Book Club is for 3rd-5th graders who love all critters! Each participant will receive a copy of the graphic novel "Animal Rescue Friends". Participants will be required to read an assigned story from this graphic novel each month and meet to discuss (approximately 25-30 pages). Along with our discussion, we will meet with an animal friend from the Animal Rescue League of Iowa's TheraPets program and do corresponding crafts/activities. A snack and juice will be provided. For children ages 8 and under, a parent or caregiver is required to remain inside of the library during this program. *Registration is required *Grades 3-5

The book for the month will be announced via the Facebook group @ facebook.com/groups/JPLLonelyReadersClub. Print copies of the Lonely Readers Club book of the month will be available at JPL beginning the 8th of the month, while supplies last. If you're feeling social, (as in, social media social), join the JPL Lonely Readers Club Facebook group and chat with fellow readers about characters, plot, how that one character really bothered you, or whatever else you need to get off your chest. It's the literary lonely hearts club for that little bit of recluse in all of us! Discussion begins online on the last Monday of each month.

    The Growing Brain (Birth to 5 Year Olds) is a curriculum that focuses on the brain and its role in early development. Areas of focus include: the structure and function of the brain; factors and experiences that can harm the growing brain, especially stress and how to protect the brain from harm; and the connections between the brain, language development and sensory functioning. This course will also include content on emotional regulation, the role of caregiving relationships and the impact of trauma on the brain. One of the most powerful features of this curriculum is that it translates very complex concepts in a way that is digestible, is meaningful and relevant, and provides a range of interactive activities that enable participants to integrate and apply these concepts in their daily work supporting young children.

    JPL's Animal Rescue Friends Book Club is for 3rd-5th graders who love all critters! Each participant will receive a copy of the graphic novel "Animal Rescue Friends". Participants will be required to read an assigned story from this graphic novel each month and meet to discuss (approximately 25-30 pages). Along with our discussion, we will meet with an animal friend from the Animal Rescue League of Iowa's TheraPets program and do corresponding crafts/activities.   • The Growing Brain - Invoice

    The Growing Brain (Birth to 5 Year Olds) is a curriculum that focuses on the brain and its role in early development. Areas of focus include: the structure and function of the brain; factors and experiences that can harm the growing brain, especially stress and how to protect the brain from harm; and the connections between the brain, language development and sensory functioning. This course will also include content on emotional regulation, the role of caregiving relationships and the impact of trauma on the brain. One of the most powerful features of this curriculum is that it translates very complex concepts in a way that is digestible, is meaningful and relevant, and provides a range of interactive activities that enable participants to integrate and apply these concepts in their daily work supporting young children. The cost of The Growing Brain participant manual is included in the registration fee.
