    Johnston Public Library Tue., Jun. 22nd All Day

    Science and snacks combine in this week's Teen Tuesday Challenge! We'll give you a canister of Pringles. Then, it's up to you to make a 3-D ring out of the tasty chips -- no tape or glue allowed. Take a selfie with your finished Pringles Ringle and email it to young@johnstonlibrary.com by July 6 for a chance to win a $15 gift card! If you're feeling social, (as in, social media social), join the JPL Silent Book Club Facebook group and chat with fellow readers about characters, plot, how that one character really bothered you, or whatever else you need to get off your chest.   • Teen Tuesday Challenge: The Great Papercraft Race

    Johnston Public Library Tue., Jun. 29th All Day

    Are you a detail-oriented crafter up for a challenge? Are scissors and glue two of your best friends? If you answered yes to those questions, then this is the perfect challenge for you! Register for one of our giant sloth paper craft kits. (FYI- this craft is not for the faint of heart. It will be a challenge!) We'll give you everything you need to construct your very own 3-D sloth entirely out of paper at home! Then, the first person to complete their sloth and bring it back to the library will win a fabulous Sloth Prize Pack including loads of fun sloth stuff and a $15 gift certificate to a really fun place.     Cook along with fab food editor Lois Carpenter during our online Deck Party cooking class and make a couple quick appetizers and a signature drink perfect for an outdoor summer gathering. Learn how to master an ultra creamy homemade hummus and present it with flair using a colorful array of summer veggies. Then discover how to make a quick garlic-infused oil to put on toasted bread for fresh tomato bruschetta. Swing by the library to pick up the packaged ingredients on July 15th or 16th between 10am and 6pm.   • Get A Flu Shot With Polk County Health Department

    Flu season is coming and this year it's more important than ever to be prepared. Come to JPL Wednesday, October 6 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm to get flu shots for the whole family. Most major insurance cards are accepted and flu shots for uninsured individuals are available for a suggested donation of $25.00, but no one will be turned away because of inability to pay. Quadravalent flu vaccine will be available in injection form only. A higher dosage flu shot for individuals 65 and older will also be available. Due to a cost increase in this high dose vaccine for individuals 65+, the Polk County Health Dept asks for a donation of $50 for the higher dose vaccine, but also will never turn anyone away.
