  • Letter To My Body: Traveling Exhibit

    Archive Room Mon., Apr. 22nd 10:00am - 6:00pm

Monsoon Asians & Pacific Islanders is holding a community event in recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April called A Letter to my Body: A Traveling Exhibit. For the past few months, Monsoon has collected over 100 anonymous letters from the community written to their bodies. The exhibit is a healing project to allow people to express how they feel about their bodies without any boundaries; be it what they like and appreciate, to things they dislike and are ashamed of. It aims to highlight things like gender norms, sexism, sexual harassment and bodily agency. We are looking for a room to showcase these letters for a day in Johnston, and wanted to see if we could hold our space in the Archive Room for one day in April. This is a unique situation were we would put the letters we've collected on display for a full day and allow space for community members to come and go as they please, read letters, and give them an opportunity to write their own letters to display in the exhibit. The letters will be on tripods, so nothing will be hung on the walls of your room.
