Donor Board photoThe Johnston Public Library Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization formed in 1994 to enhance and improve the Johnston Public Library. Contributions are tax deductible pursuant to the Internal Revenue Service code.

The Johnston Public Library Foundation conducted a Capital Campaign which provided the furniture and furnishings for our new library building, which was occupied in October 2001. The Foundation continues to fund special needs for the Library. Call 515-278-5233 for further information.

The Foundation's 2008 Annual Report was distributed in February, 2008.

Friends

Johnston Public Library Foundation was established in 1996. The purpose of the Friends, as stated in the by–laws, is to:

  • Help the library continue to offer a wide variety of materials.
  • Provide input on vital issues.
  • Spread the word about the library and its role as a center for literary, intellectual, and cultural activity.
  • Support the library financially with membership dues.

Maintain an association of persons interested in libraries.

Membership is open to any person or organization interested in the Johnston Public Library who applies for membership and pays the necessary dues.

Some of the activities the Friends have sponsored in the past are: Stories by Stars, Rhyming Tales, Gardening Talks, a Garden Walk, and a Lollipop Concert presented by the Des Moines Symphony.

Ongoing activities include: a book club for adults which meets once a month to discuss books the members have selected to read and an ongoing book sale in the library.
