Are You Money Smart?

It's too bad money doesn't come with instructions, because we all need to know how to spend it, save it, and borrow it wisely. That's why financial institutions, not-for-profits, schools, libraries and lots of others are joining together to help support financial education during Iowa's second annual Money Smart Week, April 5-12. Here are the events that will be held at the Johnston Public Library during this time.

Saturday, April 5 - AARP Tax Help, 12:00-3:00 p.m.

Sunday, April 6, 1:30-2:30 p.m., Large Meeting Room
A Millionaire’s Mind – Learning to Invest
How do you become a millionaire? This hands-on session shows kids (5th-8th) and parents/grandparents how to start down the investing path. Learn how to find stocks, invest small amounts, and use the library’s resources to build a portfolio. Presenter: Joanne Kuster. Pre-register by April 4 at the Reference Desk – Ask for Lynne.

Tuesday, April 8, 6:30-7:45 p.m., Large Meeting Room
ABC’s of Retirement Accounts
This session provides key information for those who plan to open a retirement account and for those who already own these accounts. The education program will cover the options available, as well as information concerning rollovers and the decisions to make when moving from one employer to another. Presenter: Tammy Hickman-Fay. Saturday, April 12
“It’s Shred Day”,
10:30-1:30 p.m.
Take precautions to keep your personal information confidential by shredding such things as old credit card receipts, credit card offers, and other records that contain personally identifiable information. Bring up to 100 pounds of paper to the Johnston Public Library for free shredding courtesy of Document Destruction and Recycling Services.
